That's My Dad Signed by Ralph Steadman

Ralph Steadman has used red ink to sign a copy of his children's book That's My Dad (1986) and he's added one of his familiar cartoon faces over the printed hand. He also has included a dangling string tied to the printed index finger, transforming rather ingeniously the hand and superimposed face into a child's balloon. This works very well, so well in fact that one wonders whether Mr. Steadman—and for that matter other book illustrators—design their title pages by giving some thought as to how they will eventually write and draw upon them.

Note:  Did you know that "A Retrospective:  Ralph Steadman" is now showing in New York at the Society of Illustrators? Did you know there are fewer than three weeks left to catch it? Thank goodness I was able to tell you in time.

Do you also know what I'm looking to put on this blog? How about books that have been signed, inscribed, drawn in, and otherwise enhanced by Ralph Steadman or perhaps other masters of the mordant line? Why not scan or photograph one or two of your most interesting and compelling books and send the images along to me. Here fame awaits you, or anonymity if you prefer.
